ROOKIE TT
We are aware of and have reviewed a lot of the content out there on Table Tennis. There is maybe too much available, and some contradict each other and it can all get confusing! Do not forget the power and simplicity of the advice on this website and we suggest coming back here to review again as a reminder and as your perception changes as you gain experience. Our advice remains valuable and true. In the spirit of this website, in that we encourage the newer player, we will make a few recommendations here so you can continue to grow and nurture your journey in this sport. These are in our opinions the best content out that that fit with the ethos of this site. Focus on these resources, we have saved you time filtering through, these really are the best!
Learning, Advice and Technique
We recommend to start with PingSkills and Tom Lodziak to see visuals of the strokes etc. And then move onto other content to expand your TT knowledge and education.
Tom Lodziak - a lot of his videos are free on YouTube and these are good for learning the strokes and more. He also has a website, with a paid enhanced service and offers video / personal coaching. He also wrote a really good book called Spin, focusing on advancement of the local level player.
PingSkills - own website and YouTube - good explanations and video demos of technique and strategy, they have a paid service on their own website if you want more.
Ben Larcombe - podcasts on Spotify (and possibly others), although not released any for a while, also a really great book on improving a player in a year, really good read, and also website. Again a focus on lower level players.
Learning Through Literature, books about the experience of Table Tennis
Matthew Syed - Bounce - this is not exclusively a book on TT, but does use TT examples from this former Olympic TT athlete turned author. It talks about the power of practice and dedication.
The Metaphysics of Ping Pong by Guido Mina di Sospiro - just wonderfully written and was shortlisted for awards. Just shows you the spirit of this sport and emotions around playing it.
The Mighty Waltzer - Howard Jacobson - one man's journey in the sport, mixed up with humour and realism.
Others
We also recommend books from Larry Hodges, Alex Polyakov, Jerome Charyn and the Table Tennis Daily web site, but the above are our absolute faves!
